FEMININE POWER:
Discovering the ETERNAL FEMININE ENERGY within
Embrace the essence of divine wisdom and intuition
In each of us, the feminine energy flows as a source of strength, intuition, and wisdom, yet it is often neglected in everyday life. The concept of the “Eternal Feminine” (German: Das Ewig-Weibliche), introduced by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in his work Faust, offers us a deeper understanding of this energy. Goethe wrote: “Das Ewig-Weibliche zieht uns hinan,” which translates to “The Eternal Feminine draws us upward.”
What Does “The Eternal Feminine” Mean?
Through this concept, Goethe sought to show that the feminine principle is not merely the physical presence of a woman, but a symbol of spiritual ascension, love, gentleness, wisdom, and divine grace. In this context, the woman represents a guide toward higher ideals, spiritual fulfillment, and inner harmony. She symbolizes fertility, nature, motherhood, and spiritual growth. In the closing scenes of Faust, it is the divine feminine principle, embodied by the figure of the Virgin Mary and other holy women, that enables Faust’s ascension and redemption.
Balancing Masculine and Feminine Energy in Daily Life
Today, we often emphasize masculine traits such as ambition, strength, logic, and analytical thinking. While these qualities are essential for achieving goals and taking action, relying too much on them can lead to imbalance. When we overly depend on the masculine principle, we may lose touch with our inner world—sensitivity, empathy, intuitive guidance, and the ability to connect deeply with others.
I have personally experienced this imbalance. The strong masculine principle has been very dominant in my life, especially as my Lagna is in Virgo or Gemini. These energies emphasize ambition, logic, and analytical thinking, but I realized how important it is to embrace the feminine side—one that brings balance through emotional expression, compassion, and intuition.
“The deepest experience of the creator is feminine, for it is experience of receiving and bearing.”– Lou Andreas-Salomé
Signs of Imbalance Between Masculine and Feminine Energy:
- A sense of emotional emptiness or disconnection from your feelings
- Stress from constantly focusing on achieving goals without enjoying the process
- Difficulty in creating and maintaining close relationships
- Lack of creativity and spontaneity in everyday life
If you recognize these traits, it may be a sign that your feminine side is underdeveloped.
How to Awaken Feminine Energy Within Yourself
Working on awakening and strengthening your feminine side is available to everyone, regardless of gender. Here are a few ways to get started:
Nurture Intuition and Inner Guidance
Feminine energy is deeply connected with intuition—that quiet, inner voice that guides us whenever we pause and listen. Try setting aside time each day for silence, meditation, or reflective thought. Ask yourself questions like, “What am I feeling right now?” or “What is my inner voice telling me?”
Practice Receptivity and Openness
While the masculine principle is often tied to action, the feminine principle is about receiving. This means being open to receiving love, support, and inspiration from the world around you. Reflect on your relationships—how do you accept compliments, praise, or even help? Try to be less controlling and more open to the natural flow of life.
Emotional Expression
Don’t forget the importance of expressing your feelings. Suppressing emotions is often a sign of an underdeveloped feminine side. Try verbalizing what you feel, whether through writing, conversation, or art. Creativity is one of the key traits of feminine energy—whether through painting, writing, dancing, or simply expressing yourself through words.
Nurture Love and Compassion
Empathy, caring for others, and compassion are essential elements of feminine energy. Developing these traits doesn’t mean neglecting yourself but finding a balance between taking care of your own needs and giving love and attention to others. One way to strengthen these traits is by practicing gratitude and actively reflecting on the good things in your life.
Connect with Nature
Nature is one of the most powerful sources of feminine energy. Spending time in nature, whether walking through a park, gardening, or simply observing the beauty around you, can reconnect you with your inner feminine principle. Nature teaches us receptivity, cyclic life, and gentleness.
Work on Self-Acceptance
One of the greatest challenges in the modern world is self-acceptance. Feminine energy requires us to be gentle with ourselves, to accept and love every part of ourselves—even our imperfections. Meditations focused on self-love or keeping a gratitude journal can help you cultivate that sense of inner gentleness.
The Feminine Principle in Jyotish Astrology
In Jyotish astrology, the feminine principle is linked with planets like the Moon and Venus, which govern emotions, intuition, and love. When these energies are strong and balanced, we feel inner peace, deeper connections with others, and a sense of harmony with the spiritual aspect of life. However, when these energies are weakened—such as when the Moon and Venus are placed in challenging (dussthan) houses or conjunct with malefics like Saturn or Rahu—there may be difficulties in expressing emotions, connecting with spirituality, or maintaining emotional stability and harmonious relationships. Strengthening the energies of the Moon and Venus through mantras, meditation, and connecting with nature can help us develop our inner feminine side.
“Woman, eternally, shows us the path upward.” – Wolfgang von Goethe
Lou Andreas-Salomé: A View on the Feminine Principle
Lou Andreas-Salomé, a Russian-German writer and psychoanalyst, also explored the feminine principle. In her work, particularly in her book Der Mensch als Weib (Man as Woman), she examined the feminine nature, not limiting it to biological or social roles but elevating it to a philosophical and spiritual level. According to Salomé, the feminine principle exists within every person, regardless of gender, as a universal energy associated with intuition, emotions, and creativity. She believed that feminine energy transforms the world through creativity and spiritual strength, just as Goethe’s “eternal feminine” transcends the material and leads toward spiritual fulfillment.
Embracing the Feminine Within
Goethe’s vision of the “eternal feminine,” combined with the wisdom of Lou Andreas-Salomé and Jyotish astrology, reminds us of the importance of developing and balancing our feminine energy. By connecting with this energy, we find inner peace, love, and a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Working on feminine energy is a path toward a greater sense of fulfillment and connection with the deeper spiritual aspects of our lives.
